The Darjeeling Heritage Toy Train, officially known as the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR), is a narrow-gauge railway in West Bengal, India. Established in 1881, it runs between New Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling, covering a distance of 88 kilometers. The train is renowned for its scenic route, passing through lush tea gardens, misty mountains, and quaint villages. With its vintage steam engines and charming carriages, the train offers a nostalgic journey that captures the essence of the colonial era. The DHR is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, celebrated for its engineering marvels, including the famous Batasia Loop and Ghum, India’s highest railway station.
PROGRAM
- Day 1 – Siliguri junction to Kurseong in Darjeeling Heritage Toy Train, from Kurseong to Darjeeling by car.
- Day 2 – Early morning 3:00 AM to Tiger Hill for Sunrise, way back visit to Ghoom Monastery or Dali Monastery / Batasia Loop, back to Homestay / Hotel.
After breakfast visit place of interest i.e.
Zoo / H.M.I / Natural Museum / Tenzing Rock /
Rangeet tea garden / Tibetan Refugee centre / on the way Rope way /
Japanese Temple / Peace Pagoda, back to homestay / Hotel.
- Day 3 – Lamahatta (Eco-Park, Lamahatta Lake 30 mins trek), Triveni view point, Gumba Dara back, Takdah, Tinchule, Pine forest, Orchid garden.
- Day 4 – Back to Siliguri via Mirik. On the way sightseeing to Lepchajagat, Pine Forest / Simana view point / Pasupati Market / Gopal dhara tea garden / Mirik Lake.
